The Department of Religious Studies strongly encourages students to participate in an Off-Campus Study program during their junior year. All Religious Studies majors must study at least four religious traditions, guaranteeing that they be exposed to traditions other than own.
Those who study abroad discover that no amount of book learning can substitute for a first-hand experience with another culture. They also learn that being an outsider for awhile, and being exposed to another culture's view of one's own culture, can be a profound learning experience and a crucial element in achieving self-knowledge.
