Changes to GLCA Tuition Remission Exchange Program Announced

Date

The Great Lakes Colleges Association is pleased to announce changes to the GLCA TRE (Tuition Remission Exchange) program that will go into effect starting with the 2023-24 academic year. These changes will reduce the cost to employees of GLCA TRE member institutions, enhancing the value of the tuition remission benefit. Starting with the 2023-24 academic year, the TRE Fee (fee that families pay to be part of the program) will be reduced to 10% of the average tuition of all GLCA TRE institutions – this is down from 15% currently. For 2023-24 academic year the fee will be $5,412 (currently $7,800).

Additionally, the GLCA will move forward on expanding institutional membership in the GLCA TRE program, further enhancing the benefit for employees by providing a wider range of options from which employee dependents can choose. This phase will take some time as we identify and offer membership to new institutions. It is unknown which institutions may decide to join and when, so we will update your Human Resources/Benefits office as we add institutions.

These changes were adopted by the GLCA Board of Directors at its April 12, 2023 meeting. Please direct questions to your campus TRE Officer or Derek Vaughan at the GLCA office at vaughan@glca.org.
