Dear members of the Kenyon College community,
Congratulations on the completion of an academic year like no other. While there remain many details to work through as we transition to a new phase of the pandemic, we have many reasons to be optimistic about the year ahead.
More than anything, we are excited that we will once again be living and learning together in Gambier. We look forward to welcoming the newest members of the Kenyon community, the Class of 2025, who enrolled in record numbers and promise to contribute much to academic and community life. We also will have a larger than usual cohort of December graduates — about three dozen members of the Class of 2021 will return this fall to complete their studies, many having taken a semester off during the pandemic year. And, given the continued volatility in international travel, fewer juniors have elected to study away next fall and instead will be with us in Gambier.
After a year with intentionally fewer students in residence, we are thrilled to once again have a full campus. Over the coming weeks we will finalize course offerings and housing options to match our robust enrollment. For added flexibility, we are introducing new programs for first-years that give them the option of joining us in Gambier in the spring or next fall after a semester or year pursuing enrichment activities off campus, including a Kenyon-sponsored program in Copenhagen. Please watch your email for updates from the Provost’s Office, the Residential Life Office and the Enrollment Division on these developments.
The pandemic has demanded much from us all, but it also has inspired much creativity. It has given us permission to look at things with fresh eyes and a reason to move ahead on new initiatives. In this next leg of our journey, we step forward with confidence having arrived, together, on firmer ground.
I look forward to seeing you all in Gambier again this fall.
Sincerely,
Sean Decatur
President
