Follow-up to Hoax Bomb Threat

Campus Safety worked with law enforcement after an unsubstantiated threat was received by phone.

Date

On Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, the Office of Campus Safety received a phone call alleging a bomb threat to the Kenyon campus. Students and employees were advised to shelter in place via the campus emergency alert system.

Law enforcement and Campus Safety inspected multiple campus buildings while investigating the threat. After determining that there was no danger to campus, the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

The caller provided inaccurate information about the Kenyon campus, which indicated the unlikelihood of a legitimate threat. This type of non-specific threat is consistent with other threats received by multiple colleges and universities in Ohio and nationwide. The College will continue to work with law enforcement to investigate the origin of this threat.

Students with questions or concerns about how this threat may have impacted final examinations should speak to their faculty; faculty members should speak to the Office of the Provost.

Support resources are also available from the Cox Health and Counseling Center, the College Chaplains, and other staff in the Division of Student Affairs
