Group Instructional Feedback Technique (GIFT)
Kenyon faculty interested in getting timely and useful feedback from students can benefit from the Group Instructional Feedback Technique (GIFT).
After an initial meeting with the faculty member to go over the process, a representative of the CIP will facilitate a structured group discussion with students during class time. In 15-20 minutes, the students will offer their own perspectives on the course and work together to identify the most significant points. The CIP will then return a summary of the students’ responses to faculty within a week.
This form of assessment has significant benefits compared to end of semester course evaluations.
Faculty can use the information reported to make adjustments or correct misconceptions while they still have time to plan and prepare classes. Students have a chance to contribute more to the course and gain a greater sense of agency in their education. To ensure that the process is meaningful for all participants, the assessment is voluntary and the reports are confidential.
To schedule a GIFT session for your course, fill out the online form, or email the CIP for more information.
