Cynthia Mahaney has been an instructor of voice at Kenyon College since 2002. A dramatic soprano, Mahaney’s performances include operatic roles Cio Cio San (“Madama Butterfly”), a Valkyrie (“Die Walkürie”), High Priestess (“Aïda”), First Lady (“The Magic Flute”), Gertude (“Hansel and Gretel”) and Violetta (“La Traviata”). Solos with orchestra include Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater,” “Carmina Burana,” and Mozart’s “Requiem.” Mahaney was a performer in the Music For Theatre: Chicago’s online presentation of “Juneenth-Cel-Liberation” on June 19, 2020. Mahaney has served as a vocal adjudicator in numerous capacities including The Central Ohio Singing Competition and Women in Music-Columbus. Mahaney organized a public concert at Kenyon College in 2010 titled: “A New Millennium of Music: Women in Song” featuring songs by women composers. Recordings featuring Mahaney include Calidente, music performed by flutist Rodolfo Vazquez and a recording of original music by female composer Jerry Casey, “Yet I Will Rejoice.”
