Fourteen miles of scenic forest and farmland
Whether jogging with a friend, taking a relaxing bike ride or just enjoying the peace and quiet of a walk through the woods, the Kokosing Gap Trail has you covered. This paved 14-mile trail hugs the bank of the Kokosing River as it winds through forests and farmland and connects Gambier to the local communities of Mount Vernon, Howard and Danville. Pick up the trail behind the Lowry Center or near the Brown Family Environmental Center, then explore historic railroad trestles, listen to the murmur of the river and spot birds, deer and other local wildlife. Restrooms, water fountains, picnic tables and parking are available at several points along the trail.
Historical fact: The Kokosing Gap Trail follows the route of railroad tracks that used to run through Gambier — climb aboard the train parked outside the Lowry Center and ring the bell!
