Tierney Awarded NeMLA-UB Fellowship

Assistant Professor of English Orchid Tierney has been awarded the Northeast Modern Language Association University at Buffalo (NeMLA-UB) Special Collections Fellowship for her project “‘The full meaning of it all!’ Mad Ecologies in William Carlos Williams’s Mental Hospital Garden.”

Powell Awarded NIH Grant

Professor of Biology Wade Powell has received a 3-year Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (a program of the National Institutes of Health) to support his project “Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) deficiency in a frog model of dioxin toxicity.”

Fennessy appointed to the Science Board of the International Convention on Wetlands

Siobhan Fennessy, the Philip & Sheila Jordan Professor in Environmental Studies and Professor of Biology, was recently appointed to the Science Board of the international Convention on Wetlands, also known as the Ramsar Convention.

Sukrungruang Named Top 35 AAPI Must Read Books

Ira Sukrungruang, the Richard L. Thomas Professor of Creative Writing, has been selected to Book Riot’s 35 Must-Read Books of Nonfiction by AAPI Authors for his book Southside Buddhist.

Faculty Publication: Life Is Not Useful

Assistant Professor of English Alex Brostoff has co-translated Brazilian Indigenous leader and activist Ailton Krenak’s "Life Is Not Useful," with co-translator, Jamille Pinheiro Dias, published by Polity Books, May 2023. Pinheiro Dias recently visited Kenyon in March for the Translation, Curation, and Care Work event at the Gund Gallery to celebrate the publication in dialogue with the "Sympathy for the Translator" exhibition.

Faculty Publication: Authentic and Hubristic Pride Scales

Assistant Professor of Psychology Leah Dickens has published “The Authentic and Hubristic Pride Scales Do Not Validly Assess the Two-Facet Model of Pride: Time to Rewind and Reboot With New Measures” with co-author Brett A. Murphy, in Volume 23, Issue 3, 2023 of Emotion, as a commentary to the 2007 study with reply from original authors, Jessica L. Tracy, Eric J. Mercadante and Richard W. Robins.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Catherine Mauck has published “Revealing intermolecular coupling effects on vibrational spectra with infrared-reflectance absorbance analysis of perylene diimide thin films” with co-authors Aleksandr Smirnov ‘23, Munachimso Onuoha, Michelle Bechtel, Elizabeth Houser ‘24, Frank Peiris, Dean Johnston and Lindsey Madison, in Volume 126 of Vibrational Spectroscopy, May 2023.

Faculty Exhibition: Paradice Palase

Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art Charlotte Woolf will be exhibiting two photographs at Paradice Palase‘s special project, "Patron Parlor," at Future Fair in NYC, during Frieze Week. The photographs are from her ongoing series "More Water Under the Bridge" (2014-).
