Residential Maintenance

This section of the Residential Life Handbook includes damage or loss to personal property, work orders and internet issues, K-Card and room key-related information, the Room Condition Report and room charge appeals.

Damage to or Loss of Personal Property

The Office of Residential Life and Kenyon College are not responsible for stolen, lost, or damaged personal property. All residents are encouraged to properly insure such items of value via homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policies.

Work Orders

To report a general facilities issue within the residential spaces, students should fill out a Maintenance Work Order using their Kenyon email.

Internet/WiFi Issues

To report an internet, WiFi or general connection issue in residential spaces, students need to contact the LBIS Helpline.

K-Card Replacement

To report a lost or stolen K-Card, please contact cardoffice@kenyon.edu.

Lockout Process

If you are locked out of your residence hall room and have lost or forgotten your key, you may contact the Office of Campus Safety and an officer will unlock your door after verifying your identity. The cost of this service is $15. This charge is billed to your student account and can be paid for at the Accounting Office located in the Eaton Center.

Room Key Replacement

Students who have misplaced or damaged their room key and want to request a new one, will need to login into their Residence account, go to the more tab, select My Keys, then select Report a Lost or Damaged Key. There is a $150 per key replacement charge for lost keys, and no charge for damaged keys.

Room Condition Report

A Room Condition Report (RCR) is completed at the time of check-in and check-out to note the condition of College property. The student’s account will be charged if the Office of Residential Life determines, during an inspection throughout the year or upon checkout, that College property has been damaged, furniture is missing and/or excessive cleaning is necessary. Residents may also collectively share in the financial responsibility for damages that occur in common areas. The cost of the repair, replacement, and/or clean-up will be charged to the student(s)’ account(s).

Room Charge Appeals

Housing damage charges may be appealed, in writing, within 14 calendar days of the date of the charge explanation letter unless there is an improper or express check-out, in which case there is no right to appeal such housing damage charges.
