Administrative Assistant Duties
The primary role of an administrative assistant is to support the department and programs that she is assigned. Often these responsibilities include searches, external reviews, budgets, course catalog, course scheduling and helping with annual reports, senior exercises, honors examiners, departmental webpages and managing office equipment and building issues. However, other duties may be assigned by department or program chairs. That is, the list of duties above is not an exhaustive list, and other duties may be assigned.
Administrative assistants are a vital part of the daily operations of departments and programs. Thus, they must be team players when unexpected events occur. When faculty and staff members wait until the last minute to complete regular tasks, the administrative assistant is not expected to rearrange her schedule to complete the task immediately. On the other hand, there will be times when the department chair and other individuals need immediate assistant so good judgement must be used. If you are ever in doubt about setting your priorities, please contact your liaison, Darlene Tedrow.
